10 September 1899 — Wengen
Sunday. 10th [September 1899]. It poured all night & this morning all the mountains round were powdered with snow—as low down as Mürren. It held up a little in the morning & we all went to the English service held in the Prot: German chapel a wooden shed by Revd Edwards an American clergyman. After luncheon we sallied forth & took a little walk but were driven back by a piercing cold wind & we retired to my bedroom—& sat there & had tea & talked & after dinner made coffee & sat there together till bed time. Cold bitter.
