7 October 1899 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 7th [October 1899]. The scirocco still so heavy that my brain was paralyzed & I could do absolutely nothing all morning. Sophy & May went out walking. It poured all the afternoon & there was no going out at all for me. At 5 Countess Canevaro & Maria Cozzi came also Dss Bognara, Countess Mazzolino & Los Marqueses Bentivoglio. Mr Spence also called & said that Lord Currie was in bed yesterday but intends leaving Venice tomorrow. After dinner Sophy read aloud from Sir Alfred Lyall’s Asiatic studies.
