8 October 1899 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 8th [October 1899]. We all three went to morning service in the English church and again at 3.30. I called on Mme Noce & she was at home so I went up to her apartment. After this visit I went home to tea. Lady Henry Somerset, Mr B. Russell & Revd Mr Saunders came to tea. Isabel Somerset told us her maid is ill and the English Dr here (van Someren) is attending her– He says she must not be moved—talks of getting a nurse from Florence & speaks of an operation. I advised her to call in Dr Sacchi (our old friend & Dr Cini’s remplaçant) & get another opinion. Van Someren being in partnership with the German Dr (Kepler) who has just set up a private hospital, it appears as tho’ he was trying to get people into it. Mrs Curtis & Miss Louise Broadwood came also to call. The latter is staying with Mrs Browning. She is very pleasant & well read.
