19 October 1899 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Thursday. 19th [October 1899]. Mr & Mrs Curtis came to lunch with us & afterwards Mrs C. took Sophy & May to Murano. I went to the Eden’s garden & there was no one there at first so I walked up & down the walk on the Sacca by the edge of the water where I always feel as if I were walking with Henry in spirit. He was fond of pacing up & down it in winter. I had been talking of him with Sophy in the morning & was rather unstrung. Then Mrs Eden came and we walked up & down the garden together till 4.30 when I went home. She cut me some of the first chrysanthemums of this season. Got home by tea & May joined me & Mr Montalba came. Sophy went to tea with Mr & Mrs Christie. | |
