23 November 1899 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 23rd [November 1899]. I had a good turn at typewriting tho’ interrupted by a visit from Mr Christie who came to talk parish affairs, (Sailors Institute & church). Mr & Mrs Curtis came to lunch with me bringing their friend Miss Lee a charming Virginian. Mr Brown also came. I asked him in order to try & show him I would not quarrel with him despite his odd conduct to me re Sailors Institute. He was very pleasant. Mrs Eden looked in after lunch to ask why I had not gone to Mme Le Malliers last night. I had to confess I had not felt enclined to move out. When my guests were gone I went for a walk as far as the Piazza & there got into my gondola & came home. Practised guitar & did French exercises before dinner. Practised harmonium after dinner.
