25 November 1899 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 25th [November 1899]. Typed in morning. After lunch Carry Eden fetched me & we went for a walk together from this house to the Piazza & on to the public gardens. It was a most lovely day cold & bright. After walking twice round the gardens we walked back to the Piazza & there got into my gondola which was waiting. I dropped Carry at her house & came home to tea at 5. Practised guitar & did French exercises. After dinner Practised Harmonium. Css Canevaro came to tea & brought a Baroness Reinelt to see this house & pictures & to make my acquaintance. She is a Triestina. Wife of an enormously rich man. Report says she is the daughter of a butcher. Be that as it may her manners are very good & she seems amiable & anxious to please.
