14 December 1899 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 14th [December 1899]. The bad weather returned to us & it snowed hard & was bitterly cold all the morning. I painted in the library. In the afternoon scirocco came up & turned snow into rain & it blew pretty hard. It was a trying day & one saw no one. I applied myself to drawing all day & in the evening till bed time– The news from the Transvaal War are so depressing that I felt very low by bed time.
