11 February 1900 — 3 Savile Row
Sunday. 11th [February 1900]. It was so cold & slushy out of doors that I did not go to church this morning but sat by the fire reading. After lunch Nellie & I walked out & went to Lansdowne House to try & find Lady L. & to ask her how I could see the D. of Abercorn. She was out so Nellie & I separated & I went on to Gloucester Place to call on Mrs Hope & to ask her advice. She was in & she advised me to telegraph to the Duke tomorrow morning. I walked home by 5 o’cl & soon after I came in the Duke arrived to talk to me. I explained the whole affair to him—how in order to get rid of the Dring element we had dissolved our committee & begged him to name a fresh one under him. He promised to lay the matter before his committee on Wedy & to let us know the result. I wrote all this to Dr Hyslop.
