26 February 1900 — 3 Savile Row
Monday. 26th [February 1900]. Wrote letters & worked at invalid Soldiers jackets. I went to lunch with Adeline Bedford. Walked there. Consulted her about a lady to travel with Violet Vivian. She recommended me to consult Mrs Benson the Archbishop’s widow who is staying in Barton St Westr with Miss Tait who lives in this old world quiet part of London just behind Dean’s Yard. She was not in town so I walked home resolved to write to her. I got home at 4.30. Had 5 oclock tea to wh came the Dss of St Albans, Dr Hyslop, Dr Bond & Miss Oswell. Then at 5.30 we had a Madeira Committee meeting in the dining room—& it was resolved to accept Dr Wainwright’s offer to go to Madeira to take Capt. Hyslop’s place. He came after the Committee was over & received his instructions & settled to start next Saty. I went to dine with Blanche Lady Lindsay at 41 Hans Place. She was alone & in the eveng she played the violin to me. She has a great love for it & plays some things with feeling.
