9 March 1900 — 3 Savile Row
Friday. 9th [March 1900]. Breakfasted downstairs at 9 with Violet & then accompanied her to Victoria Station & saw her off with Mme Ryer to Genoa whence she is to go to Siena & to remain abroad for a couple of months’ change which she sorely needs after all her anxiety about her mother. Lady & Miss Hood saw her off & her brother Lord V. When she was gone I walked with Lord V. to Buckingham Palace hoping to write my name in H.M.’s book but it was too early so I came home & wrote letters & packed to go to Lutterworth. After lunch I walked again to Buckingham Palace & wrote my name & then took Mrs Browning’s diamond brooch & had it valued & on my way to the Grand Central Station I stopped at Cav. Sqr & left the brooch with Blanche. I left Marylebone Station by 4 o’cl train. A very comfortable journey in a corridor train and 5 o’clock tea was served to me by the conductor for 6d. I got to Lutterworth soon after 6. Eda & Mary met me & walked from the station to the Rectory. Only the two girls at home with Kate & Cecil.
