22 March 1900 — 3 Savile Row
Thursday. 22nd March [1900]. Monty is recovered & Dr Broadbent took leave of him however he wishes to keep on his nurse a bit longer. I went out to Gros. Place to see Mrs Morgan & to ask her if she would take some parcels for us to Madeira. She was not at home so I left a message. She lives at 14 Gros: Place & from there I went to No 14 [sic, for 3] & paid my old friend Lady Stanhope a visit. I was lucky eno’ to find her at home & we had a nice little talk together. I then walked home to lunch & did not go out again. Lady Dudley (Georgina) called on me at 3 to talk over the arrangements for officers & their wives at Madeira. I wrote letters till 5 o’cl when Mrs Clay Seymer came to tea– Afterwards Mrs Percival Henry’s niece called & sat some time. Dined at 7.30—Mr Herbert Thompson, Mr Percy Thesiger, Arthur & Nela Du Cane came to dinner & then we all 6 went to the Criterion Theatre & saw a piece called His Excellency the Govr which was amusing & made us laugh although it was not particularly well written or well acted. Monty was still up when I returned & I went & sat a little while with him & chatted.
