24 April 1900 — 3 Savile Row
Tuesday. 24th [April 1900]. I had a quiet morning & did not go out. Had a visit from Mr Wainwright to say he found the nurse he was going to recommend must go thro’ certain formalities if she joined the Army reserve & that he was going to 18 Vica St to see the Army medical authorities abt it. Later Dr Bond came & brought his niece the nurse of his recommendation & I sent them off to the same place. Mr Wainwright returned rather discouraged but saying they had promised to see his nominee at 2 but said the whole thing could not be ready for the next mail even should the Govt give permission for the passing & free passage. Eda & Nellie went out in the morng only returning by lunch time & directly after we went off to a hair dresser & had our hair washed & then ondenté with hot irons as is now the fashion & then coiffé in the present fashion. We went in a four wheeler to Mrs Cole’s shop to order summer bonnets & then took a cab & came home to tea. Mr Cazenove called & we had a long talk abt the Convalescent Home & we agreed that Mr C. should take me on Thursday to see the Lord Mayor at the Mansion House that we might get him to give us some money for our Home expenses. Nela came to see Eda & I kept her to dine with me. Nellie & Eda went out to dine with the Cazenoves & went to the theatre with them.
