28 April 1900 — 3 Savile Row
Saturday. 28th [April 1900]. This morning’s post brought me an official letter from the War Office to say Lord Lansdowne consents to send our Drs, nurses & equipment to the Cape at the public expense & will ration our staff. This puts our establishment on the same footing as the military hospitals & is a great point gained. I sent for the machine & typed letters & before I got out of bed– I went for a walk in the morning with Eda. I sent for Mr Owen Williams to be our Agent for the Cape as it will simplify matters—there being many things he knows how to do. I spoke with him by telephone & he sent his partner up to see me—& I arranged with him to send out nurses & equipment in accordance with the Govt arrangements. Miss Oswell came to tea & I propounded to her a plan for her to go out & settle in S. Africa which she is anxious to do. Eda left abt 7 & went to stay with her brother Monty at Hatfield. Nellie & I had a quiet evening. Connie came to ask me to type some things for her wh Miss Oswell kindly did while she was here before tea.
