29 April 1900 — 3 Savile Row
Sunday. 29th [April 1900]. I went as usual to the German Chapel R. to the English service at 10 A.M. On my return I found a cable from Mrs Twining at the Cape saying that if Logan’s offer was not accepted at once he would withdraw it & asking if Dr Wainwright is empowered to buy furnishings for the Home. After much consideration I decided to take upon me to accept Mr Logan’s offer & to say Wainwright was authorized– I had to do this without waiting for a committee meeting. Arthur Du Cane came to lunch & I consulted him also as to the proper way of replying to the War Office. When it came to the point the original War office letter was nowhere to be found tho’ I had a great hunt for it. Connie came to luncheon. Nela & Daisy & Mr & Mrs J. Murray came to tea. After dinner I typed letters.
