4 May 1900 — 3 Savile Row | |
Friday. 4th May [1900]. The young woman from Hammond’s type writing firm brought me my new machine & gave me some instruction in it. Wrote letters &c. Mrs Cazenove came to luncheon & brought her little boy with her. I went before lunch to Wimborne House, saw Ivor and got from him 2 more vols of my mother’s journals making 6 in all that Ivor has lent us. Visit from Mrs Holmes White & her girl. At 4 Nell & I went to the Private view of the Royal Academy. The great picture is Sargent’s portraits of the 3 daughters of Mrs Percy Wyndham—very much admired but is not to my taste. One by Orchardson of 4 generations of the Royal family—the Queen, P. of Wales, Duke of York & the little Prince is highly thought of—seems to me flat & unfinished. There was a great crowd of people & it was very hot so we came back early to tea– Later my sister Kate walked in. She had come up from Inwood & was staying a night at Blanche’s. Nell & I dined alone. I wrote & typed for the Cape mail till bed time. | |
