1 June 1900 — 3 Savile Row
Friday. 1st June [1900]. Blanche’s Irish girl came for a last lace lesson as she returns home to Ireland by tonight’s train. Duncannon looked in. He & Blanche are gone today to Canford for Whitsuntide. Nela came to tea. I went down to Bethlem to see poor Miss Lyon & found she is ill in bed. She does nothing but laugh & will not speak. I went to one of the wards to see Miss Grover & some old friends. Dr Hyslop away on his holiday. Dr Craig took me to the ward & left me with the nurse. Nellie & I dined at home. I was very depressed. Monty asked me to remove the Bellini fresco from his room– I must give it to the National Gallery there is no place for it in the house– It seemed to me hard to give up what Henry liked but it is out of place in Monty’s room & it will be better it should be safe in the gallery. I wrote to Sir Edward Poynter about it.
