Tuesday. 19th [June 1900]. I went to the examination at King Edward’s girl school just behind Bethlem Hospital. The prizes were given away by Lady Fandel Philips, wife of the Ex Lord Mayor. After the prize giving we had a splendid luncheon cooked by the girls who waited on us. They had beautifully decorated the table with flowers & the whole thing was very pretty. A few short speeches were made, healths were drunk and then we adjourned to the great recreation hall to see the girls go through their drill with clubs in their hands. They did it with great precision & it was a pretty sight. From there we went to the Recreation ground & the girls played hockey. Then I left them & returned home– | |
