4 July 1900 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 4th [July 1900]. Lady Clark came to lunch (the widow of Sir Andrew Clark the Dr). I went to Bethlem to see Miss Lyon who is a little better & got back to 5 o’cl tea. Found a very handsome Mr Spencer calling on Nellie. Aline Lambton came to see me—looking so pale & wan poor little thing. Her rather sad life has been made sadder by the loss of one of her brothers in the Transvaal. Mrs Gertie Seymer also called to consult me as to what she shall do with my cousin Lady Elizabeth Bertie who is staying with her & is ruined—has cheated stock brokers & is to be made a bankrupt. Gertie suggests we should all (in the family) subscribe to keep her– I dont see it—but promised to consult Richard Du Cane on the 1st opportunity.
