Friday. 13th [July 1900]. The heat is now tremendous & one cannot go out in the day time. I had a visit from Col. Brownlow Layard the head of the Family of Layards—a curious man. I had never seen him before– He seems good natured & original. At 6.30 I took Nellie for a drive in a hansom round Regent’s Park & we dined at 9—she, Mary & I. | |
