25 July 1900 — Milton Court, nr. Dorking, Surrey
Wednesday. 25th [July 1900]. Little Arthur came to breakfast with me in my room at 8 o’cl & was very good & very amusing. The day was hotter than ever—too hot to sit out in the garden & we stayed in doors all the morning. At 4.50 I left Dorking by train & returned to town. Soon after I got to Savile Row I had a visit from Evelyn Eliot to ask if her mother would find me at lunch tomorrow. She took me to Dover St to find Dr Burton as I wanted to ask him to find a medical magazine for me. This he promised to do. I walked on to Cav. Sqr to see Blanche she had just come in from her drive & I stayed only a short time with her—she was knocked up with the great heat. I am the only person who enjoys it. I walked on to Park Crescent & saw Maria who also feels the heat greatly but is going to Branksome Dene on Friday. Came home in a hansom. Dined alone & wrote letters.
