Visit from the Bishop of Peterborough who with his wife Lady Mary Glyn arrived in Venice yesterday & is lodging at Pal. Tiepoletto– After lunch we all went off to the Lido taking our tea basket with us. Lady P., Mrs Walrond & I went in gondola to the “Quattro Fontane” the rest went by steamer & joined us there. We found the Montalba family there in their hut on the seashore. Mrs M. & Ellen & Hilda– They begged us to have our tea there & Hilda remained with us to help us—& afterwards we brought her back to Venice in the gondola. Mrs M. & Ellen left earlier as it was not very warm & they dared not remain late. We got home soon after sunset. | |
