19 November 1900 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 19th [November 1900]. Mr Christie called on me in the morning to discuss Institute matters. I modelled in wax at a small figure I began years ago. After lunch went out in gondola with Barbara & rowed to Quattro Fontane to show her the Lido. It was a lovely day. Met the Montalbas there who were just coming away. The sea was very blue—the tide low—many coloured sails of fishing boats in the distance. We stayed but a short time & got home again soon after 4– Idita Bentivoglio paid me a visit & we talked of Vescovana– I received in the evening—the Hultons, Montalbas, Mrs Eden, Mrs Curtis & Iduna came & the Christies. Nela’s letter of today explains her improved telegram. Maria had been quite sensible & had asked to get up. It seems impossible when I think of this day last week.
