20 November 1900 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 20th [November 1900]. Modelled all morning. Barbara went out early & lunched with Mrs Browning– At 2 I went out & took the little Conure parrot I have tamed to Ellen Montalba to her & left it with her—then called for Barbara & took her to buy some glass vases & to see the silk factory & then we came home as the weather had become bad. The wind was high & it rained. Mrs Fildes the wife of the artist came to tea at 5 & showed me her pearl necklace which I helped her to buy. She was full of amusing stories of her friend Mrs Val Prinsep’s untidy & queer ways—& how, in spite of her great riches she is always in & out of her kitchen & muddling amongst her servants– This morning’s letters say Maria was up out of her bed for 10 minutes the day they wrote–
