4 December 1900 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 4th [December 1900]. I was unusually tired this morning & rose late. As it was a lovely day I determined to be thoroughly idle so we ordered the gondola at 12 & set off with our luncheon in a basket for Quattro Fontane. It was a splendid day tho rather cold– We got to the Lido by one & went straight to the Montalba cabin & found August, Hilda & Ellen there & begged to be allowed to eat our food with them. Their surprise & delight at our sudden appearance was delightful. They provided us with chairs & table & we had a comfortable picnic & then walked along the sands picking up shells & then to S. Elizabetta where we found our gondolas waiting & from whence we started home. B. & Bss Haan came to tea– We dined at 7.30 & went to bed very early.
