19 December 1900 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 19th [December 1900]. Modelled in morning. Directly after lunch went to Edens & found them in their launch waiting to take me out with them. It was a lovely day & we had a most enjoyable trip to S. Nicoletto—landed—& walked to the Favorita on to the sea shore. I told the Edens all my difficulties abt the Browning ménage & consulted with them. Returned to Venice by 4—had tea with the Edens & then went home in gondola– Mr Woods dined with me at 7 & then we called for Signorina Giacomelli & went to the Sailor’s Institute Concert. I sang two songs– The Newmans rehearsed a small Christmas musical sketch of Mr Newman’s writing– Siga Giacomelli was curious to see what is entirely unknown in Italian life—she is a person who has hopes of inducing Italians to do something of the sort to help the classes & is trying to get up a working man’s club here.
