22 December 1900 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 22nd [December 1900]. This morning worked hard at my wax figure– Visit from Prof. Trombini. After lunch called on the Christies & took Mr C. to the church in gondola. We had an Italian organist whom Mrs Hulton knew of & who is willing to play at our services & we showed him & practised over the music for tomorrow & for Christmas Day, Mrs Hulton & I singing– We then went Mrs Hulton & I to the Hotel Victoria to see the Exhibition of artist sketches which are on sale—& I bought 4 very pretty little water colour sketches by Signorina Fragiacomo. Her father was once our cook the man I met in the train coming from Treviso the other day. Her brother is a well known artist. Brought Mrs Hulton back here to tea. The 3 Montalba girls came to tea & stayed a long time talking. When they left they took me in their gondola to S. Vitale & I paid a visit to Mrs Browning who is in bed with a severe cold. I got home just in time to dress for dinner– Patience—bed– Wrote to the Empress Frederick today.
