20 April 1901 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 20th [April 1901]. I went off in the morning to sit to Ellen & returned in gondola to lunch. At 2 had visit from Mme Le Mallier, her sister & niece, Princesse de Wagram & her little girl– A handsome woman is the Princess & half English. She is intelligent about pictures—has pleasant frank manner. No one came to 5 o’cl tea & I went on with my copy of the Cosimo Lura. Lady Albemarle & Hilda dined with me & Mme Wiel came to fetch Lady A. to take her to the concert. I suggesting our all going together in my gondola & in return Mme W. offered Hilda & me places in her box wh we accepted. The concert was very fine & it was curious to hear Beethoven rendered by Germans in its true sense. The colouring was delicate & the execution perfect. The Fenice was full quite a Teatrone.
