13 May 1901 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 13th [May 1901]. Had a busy disturbed morning—showing the pictures to callers. Mr & Mrs Percy Wyndham came & Miss Carlton & were in ecstasies over the pictures. Lady Galloway came & brought a Bss Biegelebare to borrow some books for her husband who is very ill & they are staying at an hotel. He was secy at Consple when were there but I have not seen him for a long time. Signor Cantalamessa sent an artist from the Academia who undertakes to do a slight repair to the picture by Moretto (Holy Family) & Sir Edward explained what he wished done. He also arranged for sending the Bonifazio to Milan (of Solomon & the Q. of Sheba) to Cavenaghi to be put in order & the carpenter came to take the measurements for the box. After lunch I went out with the Poynters to S. Cassiano to see the picture by Palma Vecchio & Tintoretto & thence to the Madonna del Orto which is full of splendid things. We spent some time there looking at them carefully. Went to Piazza to order our railway tickets & then home. The Poynters went to tea at Mme Wiels. I stayed in & had some visitors.
