15 May 1901 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 15th [May 1901]. Busy morning. Mattei my architect came at 11 to meet Mr Christie to talk over the means of finding a new house for the Sailor’s Institute. I went to lunch with the Curtis at 1—found Mr C. was ill in bed—but had a pleasant quiet talk with Mrs C. & at 3 oclock I went on to the Montalbas & gave Ellen a last sitting for my portrait which is very successful. I did not get home till past 5. Ersilia Canevaro & Maria Cozzi, the Belmondos & the Prefect & Marchesa Cassis called—& Dorigo the stone mason called with plans for Blanche’s balcony in Ireland. I had just 5 minutes to dress & to dine at 7.30 & directly afterwards I went to the seaman’s Institute to be present at their weekly concert & to help Mr Christie with my presence. There were about 30 men & 1 captain there & they seemed to enjoy themselves– At 10 I went to a different scene a party at Mme Wiel’s where there was music—2 ladies sang & we had refreshments & I was glad to get home to bed being tired.
