30 June 1901 — Swinford Old Manor, Ashford, Kent
Sunday. 30th [June 1901]. Breakfasted at 9—& I walked to Church at Hothfield with the Dobsons & we heard a good sermon by the Rector Mr Russell on the conversion of St Paul—& I had a talk with the Dobsons walking home on miracles & apparently supernatural manifestations. Mrs D. takes every thing very literally & is narrow in her views. He is more thoughtful. I interested them by showing them my “dowsing” powers. The rest of the day we sat about in the garden. There had been a violent thunderstorm in the night & it was inclined to rain all day. The wife Mrs Dobbs of the owner of Goddington came over to visit Mrs Austin with a party of friends, Lady Pender, Mrs & Miss Noble &c & we walked about with them & helped to entertain them. Dined at 8.30.
