6 July 1901 — 3 Savile Row
Saturday. 6th July [1901]. These last 3 days I have been very busy amongst other things paying the country & small London bills which my brother Arthur had owed & which could not be paid as all the money he left had been swallowed up in the lawsuit his son Rhuvon had brought against Merthyr. I could not bear that in Dorset the people should speak against the family & so I resolved to pay myself for dear Arthur’s sake—as I can afford it. I went this morning to try & see Ivor & ask him to help with the larger bills but he was busy so I left it for another time. It was a very hot day so I did not go out till after 5 o’cl tea & then I & Nellie took a drive round the Park & called at the Alexandra Hotel to see Merthyr but found he & his family have left London.
