10 July 1901 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 10th [July 1901]. I got up as usual & had my breakfast in my dressingown—but had to return to bed soon after as I had a severe headache—& there I remained till evening in the dark. Nela arrived having come to town for the Pastoral Play & its rehearsals. She is sleeping at Rosie Ridley’s house. Connie came to luncheon & sat with me a little while. The 2 Vivian girls came to see me abt 6—both looking very pretty & seeming now very happy together. Their mother is still at Barnes under care—but they say she is a little better. I got up, dressed & went to dine with Sir Wm & Lady Humphrey—a large dinner party. Sir Felix Semon took me into dinner & Mr Hamilton Aidé sat on my left—next him Mrs Thackeray Ritchie. There was also a Count & Css Corrobio, he 1st sec. of the Italian Embassy & a Venetian. She a tall dark woman Austrian– Mr Seymour Allen was also there & convulsed me by asking me to “judge puppies” for him. I declined assuring him that I did not know a puppy from a kitten—but was more competent to judge parrots!
