4 August 1901 — Shrubbery House, Froyle, Hampshire
Sunday. 4th [August 1901]. We 3 walked to church which is in Froyle Park. A small tumble down little building. The Parson (Lethbridge) is very high church—crosses himself &c– Sir Hubert sang in a white surplice in the Choir & read the lessons. He has disfigured the church with various taudry prints which have High tendencies—St Veronica’s head of Christ—the Virgin &c. The parson preached a sermon dragging in a reference to the proposed alteration of the King’s Coronation Declaration & thereby incensed most of the congregation.
