18 August 1901 — En route to United States
Sunday. 18th [August 1901]. Breakfasted at 8 in bed—& got up by 10. At 11 the purser read the service in the dining saloon—& I went down to it. The organ was played by one of the stewards who we were told had once been organist in a cathedral! He played most beautifully. What a come down! There must be some sad story behind it all! The sea was not so smooth & I had to make a hasty retreat to my cabin & to lie down till lunch when I got better was able to go down, but it got very cold sitting up on deck & I had to get hot bottles on to warm myself altho’ I wore a fur jacket. Was down to dinner. Weather still fine sea smooth. Made 374 miles.
