21 October 1901 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 21st [October 1901]. Unpacked & settled down– After lunch we went Emilia & I to call on Guggenheim & took him with us to the Post Office that I might claim a parcel which had been waiting for me there for some time & Guggenheim had to vouch that I am the person to whom it is addressed. It proved to contain an Indian necklace which has been left to me by the Empress Frederick. It is most charming with queen stones uncut & with beautiful enamels at the back of it. After depositing Guggenheim at his house we went on to the Piazza & left the necklace at the jeweller’s to have a case made for it. Since my banker Blumenthal failed this summer, Guggenheim has kindly managed my affairs here & has been very useful.
