5 December 1901 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 5th [December 1901]. Fine again & copied picture. Byard & Williamson came to lunch & went away directly afterwards so I went out early to see Bss Reinelt & to disburden myself of the little watch. Luckily I found her quite alone & she was quite pleased with my humble little offering. We had a long talk and she told me how she had taken a fancy to me & could talk to me feeling I could understand her—& I saw that she has depth in her & is really a good woman & intelligent—& not only the rich spoilt woman of the world– From her I went to the Piazza & sending the gondola away I walked home. I found Mr Murray returned from Bassano when I got home—having enjoyed his little tour altho’ the weather is quite wintry. He played Besique with me in the eveng in order most kindly to teach me.
