7 December 1901 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 7th [December 1901]. I modelled all the morning. After lunch I went to fetch Ellen Montalba & she took me off to a man at S. Sebastians who has casts & I bought a lot of hands feet &c at 1 franc a piece. Home early. Baroness Hellenbach came to tea & brought an Austrian friend to be introduced to me a Herr W. rather a terrible looking creature who wore new white gloves the whole time & had wonderfully curled whiskers & mustache. He is said to have a daughter who plays the violin very well. The Prefect also came to tea. Mlle Clary also came a sad pale frail looking girl whom I had urged to come to see me– I kept her on after all the rest had gone & tried to draw her out & make her open out to me– I partially succeeded and she promised to come to me next Tuesday evening & I told her we would then settle when she should come to read English with me.
