31 January 1902 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 31st [January 1902]. Modelled– The Bora was worse than ever today & no going out—for exercise we arranged the books in the library– The weather improved towards evening to my relief for I had arranged to have some trios en petit comité as we used to do in old times. Trombini on the piano, Dini on the ’cello & Castellari on violin. Mr & Mrs Harston dined with us. In the evening came the Bompards, Le Malliers, Css Albrizzi & her sister Bss Gerlach, the Hultons & Mrs Eden– The playing was excellent. I enjoyed it—feeling all the time how Henry had loved it & missing him more than ever. It is the first time I have plucked up courage to have a trio evening without him. They played the 2nd of Beethoven & the 1st of Schumann. Dini also played a minuet of Handel’s. We had tea in the dining room—& all was over before 12 oclock & all went away pleased.
