7 February 1902 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 7th [February 1902]. The Turk brought the carpet & after much bargaining I got it for 670 lire. We think it a bargain. I had it put down in the little green boudoir where the walls are covered with green brocatelle—& where are the pictures by Luino, Moretto, Cima, Bissolo & Boccacino. Directly after lunch I went with my maid & Mme Wiel’s to the hospital & took the patients newspapers & oranges &c. Afterwards I called on Mme Wiel & then came straight home as it was pouring with rain. Baroness Haan came to tea & afterward Young Count Emo—& Trombini came just before dinner to have a chat. Dr Sacchi came to see me & I promised to give him malt coffee for some poor children near where he lives—just opposite here. After dinner Iduna Bel: sent her gondola for me to go & see her dressed for the Ballo di Beneficenza at the Hotel Britannia. She had her head dressed after Marie Antoinette & La Pilance—a model of a ship in her hair. A pouring night.
