12 February 1902 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 12th [February 1902]. Ash Wednesday. I went to church & took Iduna with me. It was pouring & there was a very small congregation. After lunch I was surprised by a visit from the Bishop of Peterboro, Mr Carr Glyn. Having been ordered a change he came off here for 4 days & was lodged at Danieli’s. I am sorry he did not come to stay with me– After sitting chatting he left saying he will come to luncheon tomorrow. It poured nearly all day long but we went out for an hour in afternoon– As soon as we returned we had a visit from Mme Barrand Herasti, the lady of the Dss of Madrid—& she made herself very pleasant– She is pretty & lively & bright. Later came other visits—Countess Tiepolo & her daughter, Iduna & Trombini– In evening I read aloud.
