22 February 1902 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 22nd February [1902]. Worked at my bas relief all day till 4 when I went out in gondola. It rained a little all day & was dull but I was too busy indoors to mind the weather. I went to tea with the Montalbas whose reception day it was. Then to see Mme Herasti & found her in her little mezzanine apartment of Palazzo Loredan Don Carlos’ house. She looked pretty as even her white hair, black eyes & fresh complexion has a charming effect. She is also lively & bright. She lent me some French Reviews to read. I worked again a bit at my bas relief to have it ready to show M. Bompard when he & his wife came to dine at 7.30 with Trombini. After dinner she & Trom: tried over the duetts on 2 pianos which they are to play here on Tuesday evening next. I sent the gondola to fetch Iduna Bel & at 10 we all went to a dance at Countess Albrizzi. There were no balls during Carnival & now they begin to dance in Lent! All Venice society was there. We came home abt 12.
