24 February 1902 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 24th [February 1902]. Mr & Mrs Newman came to me about the fuss Mr N. had with the Brit. Consuls clerk at the station over some sailors on Wedy last. I tried to calm him & sent him away comforted. Countess Canevaro also came to see me to ask me to write to Mappin & Webb about some silver things she wants from London—so I had little time left for modelling in the morning. At 4 Mme Bompard came with her little girl & there were joined by Trombini & Dr & Signora Agostini to have a rehearsal of the music they are going to play here tomorrow evening. Mme B. & Trom: on 2 pianos & Mme B. sings with piano & violincello accompanyment by Dr Agostini. After tea I went off the Bompards picking up Mr B. at his studio in gondola to Palazzo Vendramin it being the Dss della Grazia’s day at home. We were very late & there were few people there left. Iduna Bel. dined with me & we went to the sailor’s inst: where there was a concert & a great many sailors as there happen to be several English ships in port. Iduna sang—music good on the whole.
