3 March 1902 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 3rd [March 1902]. Worked all morng modelling. After lunch went out on foot to the Piazza to get some exercise. The gondola met me & took me to call on Css Tiepolo at S. Polo—a charming house with still nice things in it & lived in by its original owners. The Css & her daughters are amiable but deadly dull & dowdy. It was hard work to get up any conversation & I was glad to escape home. Bright pretty little Css Valmarana came to call on me with her daughter– Also Aspasie Kwekwitsch & Mr Bompard. I sent him this afternoon a brass plate wh has a quaint relief of St George & the dragon on it wh he coveted & of wh I happen to have two & he came to thank me. I have these old brass plates up over the side table in a frame in the dining room & on grand occasions they are changed for the old Spanish silver ones. I am glad to have been able to give Mr Bompard pleasure.
