4 March 1902 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 4th [March 1902]. I went out after lunch to see Baroness Reinelt & found her rather dull at her hotel & with her foot hurting her so I persuaded her to go out with me as it was a lovely day & the sun shining. We went in gondola for a row on the Grand Canal & then landed at the Piazza & I walked back to her door with her—& then returned from the Hotel Victoria & the Piazza & went home to 5 o’cl tea. M. Wiel came to tea & then we walked together to Countess Brandolin’s door where he left me to pay a visit to her. I did not remain very long as other people came in & there was no possibility of intimate talk. M. & Mme Bompard, Mr & Mrs Hulton, Prof. Trombini & Countess Belmondo dined with us & then we went at 10 o’cl to a party given by Css Canevaro—a farewell on her departure for Rome. It was very gay & the house was full. I took Mlle Aspasie Kwekwitsch also in the gondola there & back.
