6 March 1902 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 6th [March 1902]. Left for Rome by 9.50 train to Bologna. Had the compartment for signore solo to myself as far as Bologna. There I got in where there was one lady in a state of excitement. She said that she had been called up to help a lady who had nearly been confined in the train. I had seen a sick person looking terribly ill on the platform. The lady in my compartment who told me she was wife of an engineer at Rome spoke French perfectly & was very kind & pleasant. We dined at the same table in the Restaurant car after leaving Florence. Her husband met her at Rome & Marchese Bentivoglio met me with Mme Hurtado’s carriage & took me to the Hotel d’Angleterre where I had ordered rooms. I arrived there at midnight & gladly went to bed.
