19 March 1902 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 19th [March 1902]. Worked on refining a cast of my “noble lady” which has been coarsely done. I want to send it to Sophy for a present. After lunch walked to Hotel Vittoria to see Mme Reinelt & to ask her to join in a box to hear Duse in Paolo & Francesca. She has promised to go with others. Went to enquire after Carry Eden & heard that the Drs are satisfied & think that is nothing seriously the matter. Called on the Harstons—& there met Iduna & brought her back to tea with me. Mme Noce came to call & put me into a very bad humour by abusing every body—Iduna having previously done the same– Mr Byard lunched with me & we talked over his concert of Sunday & I found he was not too much discouraged. People now wish to make me believe that his own master, Cohen, is going about abusing him, wh would be monstrous. At 6 Iduna & I went to Css Papadopoli to pay a visit & then I came back & shut the door & was glad to be by myself again—thinking how nice Venice would be were it not for the Venetians!
