13 April 1902 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 13th [April 1902]. We all breakfasted at 9 & went to the 10.30 service at St George’s. I walked home & went in to see the little Harston boy who is better but still in bed– The rest of the party went into the picture gallery & we met again at lunch at 1. After lunch we went in open gondola to the Eden’s garden in the Giudecca. It is the first really fine day we have had—warm enough to have the felse taken off the gondola. The Edens were alone & the garden was lovely with its spring flowers. We came home for 5 o’cl tea & then Elaine & I went out again in gondola by the Canareggio & she made a hasty sketch of a boat– We dined at 8– There are very disquieting news from Belgium where there is a sort of revolution & a socialist rising. Italy & Switzerland have also broken off relations—though no one seems to take much attention to the fact & there seems to be no danger of a war. The rumours of peace in the Transvaal dont seem to be true–
