14 April 1902 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 14th [April 1902]. George Montagu spent the morning with me in my studio & I gave him a modelling for which he has a turn. After lunch we all went out in gondola at 4 to the Piazza G.M., the Villiers & I, & went round to shops. G.M. & I went to have refreshment at Florian’s café– It was quite a hot day—quite lovely & the spring seems to have come at last. G.M. & I walked home, returning by the traghetto of S. Tomà and went to Rietti to look at old furniture—but we bought nothing– We bought a table & a priedieu at an old man’s corner rubbish shop at S. Tomà. I came home rather tired & determined to go to bed directly after dinner but it was a lovely moonlit night & I was over persuaded to go out in gondola on the Canal in the evening. There were several boats full of singers—all bad performers but the night was lovely & we stayed out till 10.30.
