9 July 1902 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 9th [July 1902]. Hilda Keppel came to luncheon & afterwards I had a hired brougham & took her for a drive. We drove to Trafalgar Sqr Chelsea & I called on Mrs A. Gray who has a charming old house called Catherine’s Lodge with a garden of abt an acre. Large drawing rooms—a long low house. Mrs Albert Gray was in so we saw the house. She said it was supposed to have been built for a gambling house as it had few bed rooms—but numerous wine cellar & no underground basement. I left other cards—& paid my yearly visit to old Genl Sir Collingwood Dickson whom I found sitting as usual in his den on the ground floor with as usual a big cigar in his mouth and as usual just recovering from a bad bout of bronchitis. He has aged—& become more garrulous—must be over 86– He had been invited to the coronation & had even thought of attending. There were storms of rain & so I went home by 5. Blanche & Irène came to tea– There was a great party at Wimborne House given by Cornelia to entertain the Colonials—but Nellie & I were too lazy to go to it. Mr Byard dined with us & we sat chatting pleasantly till 11–
