10 July 1902 — 3 Savile Row
Thursday. 10th [July 1902]. Mr Horatio Brown came to lunch & was very severe on me because he said I was sending a circular to my friends asking them to help about the Venice Hospital wh the Italian Committee might resent as libelous– It was rather trying to my temper to be snubbed—tho’ I may be wrong & probably am—even tho’ I feel I only was telling the truth in saying our English sailors were not once washed in 3 weeks they were at the Italian hospital. However on recovering my serenity I promised not to send out any more of the offending papers—& Mr B. left mollified. Cecil better– Stormy day– I took a short walk before dinner. Connie brought a rich Mrs Stern to tea who promised to help me over the Sale.
